As 2022 draws to a close, we look back on a very difficult year. The needs of the Syrian people have reached the worst levels since the conflict began, against a backdrop of further economic collapse and ongoing violence.

Geir O. Pedersen

6 million people – an increase of 33 percent from last year – need urgent assistance. However, the winterization response, led by the UNHCR, is only 21 per cent funded, meaning that more than two-thirds of people who need help will not receive it.

MARTIN GRIFFITHS

There are 1,811,578 people living in 1,633 camps, including 514 random camps in northwest Syria. These displaced individuals are concerned about the impending winter as their tents offer inadequate protection from the elements and are at risk of being damaged or destroyed. Over 1,800,000 people have been without a permanent home for over adecade.

Ghaith Alddin Zeen

Humanitarian needs and human’s lives should not be based on pragmatic or political decisions. The situation does not accept any negotiation. Delivering humanitarian aid is a right and duty, and we’ll continue to advocate for it as part of our message and goal.

Ghiath Alddin Zeen

Failure to ensure the ability of the UN to continue delivering aid across borders will have a catastrophic impact on the Syrian lives in NW Syria. Their humanitarian needs can not be met through alternative routes.
